4S LiPo & LiHV Batteries

This category includes 4-cell (4S) batteries, which for a long time were the primary choice for FPV pilots seeking high power and performance. They offer a nominal voltage of 14.8V (LiPo) or approx. 15.2V (LiHV), reaching about 16.8V or 17.4V (for LiHV) respectively when fully charged. Despite the growing popularity of 6S, 4S packs remain extremely popular and valued.

4S batteries (LiPo and LiHV) are ideally suited for:

  • 5-inch FPV Freestyle and Racing Drones: They provide a proven and reliable base for many configurations, offering a great power-to-weight ratio.
  • Powerful 3-4 inch FPV Drones: Delivering a significant performance boost compared to 2S/3S.
  • RC Airplanes: Faster and larger models requiring more power.
  • RC Cars and Boats: In classes requiring ~15V power.

Typical capacities for 5-inch FPV drones range from 1300mAh to 1800mAh. The standard power connector is XT60, and the balance connector is a 5-pin JST-XH. Remember that LiHV versions require a charger that supports this mode. We offer high-quality 4S packs from leading brands like GensAce/Tattu.

When choosing a 4S battery (LiPo or LiHV), match it precisely to your drone and flying style:

  • Voltage Compatibility & Motor KV: Ensure FC, ESC, and other components are rated for 4S voltage. For standard LiPo, this is max 16.8V; for LiHV, max approx. 17.4V. Check if your motor KV is suitable for 4S (usually higher, e.g., 2300-2700KV for 5-inch) - using a 4S battery with low-KV motors (intended for 6S) will result in poor performance.
  • Cell Type (LiPo vs LiHV): LiHV versions, charged to 4.35V/cell, can offer slightly more power and flight time but require a charger with LiHV mode and awareness of the potentially higher voltage for drone electronics. Standard LiPo (4.20V/cell) is a safer and more universal choice if unsure about compatibility.
  • Capacity (mAh): For 5-inch drones: 1300mAh (lighter, more agile), 1500-1600mAh (popular compromise), 1800mAh+ (longer flight, heavier). Choose capacity adequate for the drone's weight and purpose.
  • Discharge Rate (C rating): Dynamic flying on 4S demands high current capability. Choose packs with a high C rating (e.g., 75C, 100C, 120C or more) to ensure power delivery and avoid voltage sag.
  • Connector: The standard for 4S packs of this size is XT60.
  • Weight and Dimensions: Check if the battery fits your frame and how its weight affects the center of gravity and overall handling.

4S packs from GensAce/Tattu are a proven choice valued by many FPV pilots.

Safety when handling LiPo/LiHV batteries is absolutely paramount! Improper handling poses a real fire risk. Always follow these rules:

  • Charging: ALWAYS use a microprocessor charger designed for LiPo/LiHV with balancing function (balancing is mandatory for 4S!). NEVER leave charging batteries unattended. Charge in a fire-resistant location (e.g., in a LiPo Safe bag, on a ceramic/metal surface). Never charge damaged, puffed, or deformed packs. Use correct charger settings (cell count=4, LiPo/LiHV type). Recommended charge rate is 1C unless the battery manufacturer explicitly allows higher.
  • Usage: Avoid over-discharging cells (generally don't go below 3.3V-3.5V per cell under load, resting voltage ~3.7V for LiPo, slightly higher for LiHV). Monitor battery voltage in OSD during flight. Land when voltage is low. Protect batteries from physical damage and punctures.
  • Storage: For longer storage (several days or more), charge/discharge LiPo/LiHV to storage voltage - approx. 3.80-3.85V per cell. Use the 'Storage' function on your charger. Store in a cool, dry place, ideally in a special LiPo Safe bag or ammo can. Do not store fully charged or fully discharged for long periods.
  • Disposal: Never throw LiPo/LiHV in regular trash! Discharge them fully (e.g., using a light bulb or charger's discharge function to a low voltage) and take them to a designated battery recycling facility.
